The Godó family is a family originating of Aragón, since the XVIIIth Century connoted with the politics and the executives in Catalonia. The first business was in the textile sector, in the first half of the XIXth century.
From the brothers Carles Godó i Pié (Equaliser 1834-Teiá 1897) and Bartolomeu Godó i Pié (Equaliser 1837-1894) active members of the Liberal Party, directed by Práxedes Mateo Sagasta, they occupied different political charges, both of local and national character.
In 1881, so that it would serve as a spreading ideological organ, they found
La Vanguardia Española. The son of Carles, Ramón de Godó i Lallana (Bilbao 1864 - Barcelona 1931), supported the political line of his predecessors, impelling the growth of the publication and created a paper industry, Papelera Godó (Godó Stationery), who supplied to the newspaper. In 1916 he was nominated a Count I of Godó. To his successor, Carles de Godó i Valls (Barcelona 1899-1987), the consolidation of the holding owes, in which activities have diversified in the sectors of the broadcasting and the television.
The Count II of Godó was an attorney in courts, designated by General Franco, and president of the la Sociedad Económica Barcelonesa de Amigos del País (Economic Society of Barcelona of Friends of the Country).
His son,
Javier Godó Muntañola, the IIIrd Count of Godó, supports the same managerial line as his father, and today it is he who is president of the Godó Group.
At sports level, they also organise the Torneo Conde de Godó (Count of Godó Tournament) of tennis, also known simply as the "Godó" and officially as Atlantic Open Sabadell.
