The old Estadio del RCD Espanyol (Spanish RCD Stadium), designed by the architect Matías Colmenares was inaugurated on 18 of February of 1923. It had a capacity of 43,667 spectators.

It was also here where the first tour of the Copa UEFA 87/8 finals took place, between Espanyol and Bayer Leverkusen (3-0). The Germans won the Cup in the penalties in the second match, in Germany.

It was also the field where some of the games of Mundial de Fútbol España '82 (Spanish World Cup of Football ´82).

Argentina-Brazil (1-3), 2 of July.
Italy-Brazil (2-1), 5 of July.

In the last match played in Sarrià was 21 June 1997, in where Espanyol beat Valencia CF 3-2.
